Shadowfall:
A Novel of Sherlock Holmes

By Tracy Revels, BSI

I was rather conservative in my opinions about pastiches.  I shared Holmes’ view that “The world is only big enough for us. No ghosts need to apply.” (The Adventure of The Sussex Vampire).  I sought books and stories that were close to the Canon and fulfilled a thirst for more in that genre.

Of course, there were instances in the Canon of menacing spectral hounds, curses, and battles between the forces of good versus evil, but Holmes inevitably quashed these threats using his power of deductive reasoning, often with Watson’s active and intuitive involvement.

But Tracy Revels, with pitch-perfect tone and manner, convinces us that Holmes is

capable of considerably more.  Holmes and Watson embark on a remarkably fast-paced adventure fraught with unimaginable danger to the empire and themselves. It would be

difficult to elaborate more on this excellent story without giving up spoilers since the action occurs at the outset.

All the elements of a first-rate Sherlock Holmes adventure are in Shadowfall, but with truly unique twists that shook me right out of my comfort zone and left me wanting more. Thankfully, Ms. Revels has created a trilogy that begs to be read.
